Anne Sherwood Pundyk, installation view of "Self Taught," Artist Studio, Tribeca, NY, November 2013.
"Self Taught,"(2013) Oil and Acrylic on Linen, 63" x 60," Triple security monitor, Three video players, Three CD's of painting source material playing in loops.
Pundyk transmits her experience within a painterly proscenium; her angular unbroken applications of paint frame layered, avian brushstrokes of saturated color. Embedded in the overlaid string of figuratively intended images within each painting are the artist’s own essential stories. They overlap with older stories such as myths, fables, and fairy tales. In this installation, the source material plays in three perpetual loops allowing the audience to free associate points of connection between the painting, the source material and their own experience. In so doing the elements of the installation begin to communicate to others the inaudible truth of the inner self.
