Artists Anne Sherwood Pundyk and Bridget Elkin create immersive art installation, Greenport, NY

North Fork TV Festival closing party will feature the artists’ Worlds Within Worlds environment on September 8

Greenport, NY (August 29, 2018) – Manhattan and Mattituck painter Anne Sherwood Pundyk and Greenport video artist and photographer Bridget Elkin are collaborating to create Worlds Within Worlds, an original installation of monumental paintings and video projections for the North Fork TV Festival’s closing celebration. The party will take place on Saturday, September 8, at the Greenport American Legion.

The North Fork TV Festival is presenting this site-specific artwork as part of their third annual gathering of independent TV executives, directors, writers and actors.

“Greenport has never had a fine art installation of this size and scope before,” said Noah Doyle, the festival’s founder. “We are very excited to share it with the North Fork TV Festival’s participants and attendees as well as the entire East End community. Anne and Bridget have been working on this piece for the last year and it is an honor to be able to debut their work this fall at our festival’s finale.”

Together the artists seek to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. In her eight large-scale paintings Pundyk edits together large territories of unstretched canvas stained with pools of bright color. Like luminous theater backdrops the enveloping space in each painting is marked with moments of pure geometry. Elkin’s video compositions employ her aerial photography of North Fork’s intricate coastlines and agricultural landscapes caught in the glowing light of dusk and dawn. Interspersed on minimal armatures Pundyk’s illuminated paintings reorient the space of the vast Greenport American Legion hall forming pathways and openings to explore. Visible from within Pundyk’s “forest” of paintings, Elkin’s video projections may be seen from two cloistered seating areas.

Located amidst the rural beauty of the historic North Fork, the North Fork TV Festival connects to the long tradition of avant-garde arts and economic industriousness on the East End. Pundyk and Elkin’s Worlds Within Worlds art installation facilitates an experience of mystery and delight for the event’s attendees as they celebrate this year’s conclusion.

Pundyk has exhibited her large scale paintings nationwide including at Long Island University, Brooklyn, NY and Guild Hall Museum, East Hampton, NY. Live music will be performed at the event by “Bandits on the Run.” Local artist Kara Hoblin will also create a live chalk painting.
